Painting On Anything That Doesn't Move

While living in California I began to paint small crafts and then graduated to the larger painting...on walls. My husband and good friend urged me to take the plunge and finally I did and to my delight it was satisfying to see my clients light up as they saw their child's bedroom become a wonderful setting for their loved one to live, learn, sleep and imagine in. As we moved to Oregon we began seeing the need to join in the spring fever in decorating our yards and homes. Rain is a usual guest here in the northwest so spring is the time to enjoy the sights and sounds that we long for.
My husband is a vital helper in picking up what is needed and yes even helping me grow my own gourds when we have a good growing season. I have purchased gourds from others as well some of which have been grown locally and traveling to hand pick my gourds.
Choosing gourds to use as birdhouses and thunder gourds is a process. Then the process of birdhouse creation or thunder gourd creation begins. Thunder gourds need to be opened at the bottom and smoothed completely. Then scrapping and sanding the inside, clear coating, drilling its hanger holes and then finally the fun part, sketching, woodburning, dying, painting the decor, carving out the exit holes, sealing, putting your plastic, spring and listening to its thunder rumble. Yes, a whole lot of steps along with a little muscle, but well worth the effort.
Custom orders are always welcomed.
